A Halloween Website

How do you determine what’s appropriate for a Halloween website?

Halloween is many things to many people and we all associate different things with the holiday.

Children dress up as pirates for Halloween. Does that make pirates synonymous with Halloween? Some say yes, some say no. What if the pirate is a ghost? Your answer might change!

Are serial killers and mass murderers synonymous with Halloween? Maybe yes, maybe no? What if the murderer is Jack the Ripper or Lizzie Borden? That might qualify as well!

To the vast majority of people, it’s ghosts and bats and black cats; witches on broomsticks; headless horsemen, vampires and mummies; it’s the smell of candy corn and freshly carved jack-o’-lanterns; it’s a certain song or a scary movie late at night. The symbols that you associate with Halloween were probably defined by your generation and the traditions of the time. Parlor games, silent movies, and candy apples are nostalgic for some, but dreadfully dull to others.

Many of the things we celebrate at Halloween were not created with Halloween in mind. Washington Irving, Mary Shelley, and Bram Stoker were simply writing stories in the style of their times, yet The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, Frankenstein, and Dracula have become traditional Halloween tales.

Halloween is associated with a plethora of stories, traditions, and symbols. There are endless monsters to fear. Anything related to magic, the supernatural, or just plain evil qualifies as “Halloweenish” for most fans, but certainly not for all. The subjects we cover might be hit or miss, but it’s all meant to embody the spirit of Halloween and hopefully visitors will enjoy the content and perhaps discover something new that heightens your passion for the holiday.

In the end, we all just love to relive those youthful memories of a magic night in October as we waited for darkness to fall when the air would fill with the hoots and howls of our fellow trick or treaters beckoning us to join them.
